Central Clearing of Credit Default Swaps – What’s Next?
Thursday, 18 February 2010 16:00 - 17:15 (GMT)

A panel of experts will provide a step-by-step guide for what central clearing means for investment managers and hedge funds and how this change will affect the sell side and their services to their buy-side clients

The deadline has passed for buy-side firms to centrally clearing some of the more ‘standard’ credit derivatives via central counterparty clearing entities. Many investment managers and hedge funds require more clarification on the clearing services offered by exchanges and how their sell side service providers can help get on board with the central clearing. Such a dramatic change in post-trade clearing of OTC derivatives is not to be underestimated or rushed.

A panel of industry experts will offer their extensive knowledge and recently acquired experiences in the central clearing of CDSs.  The panel will provide a much needed update on the current landscape of central clearing of CDS, explaining the differences between the various services on offer, and providing a ‘how to guide’ for how buy-side institutions can make use of a central counterparty structure for credit derivatives.  Attendees will hear about the main challenges inherent in moving to this new clearing model and learn how such a change will impact their internal operations, risk management procedures and change relationships with sell side and other service providers. Sell-side institutions will gain insight into the appetite from central clearing and learn how banks can build better services and scalable infrastructure capable of supporting the new clearing needs of their investment management clients.
