The 8th annual Phosphor Global Summit - which took place on March 23 - 25 - provided a forum for leading producers and users to discuss and plan the advancement of phosphor technology and applications; LEDs still being the most important example.
The conference was divided into 5 sessions covering materials and light generations global perspectives, emerging applications, Phosphors for LEDs, nanoscale innovations and specialty phosphors. Two pre-conference seminars, including a seminar on phosphor applications, as well as a brand new seminar on intellectual property for the phosphor industry, rounded out the conference experience.

Dr. Thomas Jüstel received his Ph.D. in Coordination Chemistry, in the group of Dr. K. Wieghardt. Afterward, he spent some months as a postdoctoral fellow at the MPI Muehlheim for Radiation Chemistry. He was hired as a Research Scientist by the Philips Research Laboratories in Aachen in 1995, where he started to work on luminescent materials. Some years later, he became a Senior Scientist and was promoted to a Principal Scientist in 2003. In 2004, he became a professor for Inorganic Chemistry and Material Sciences at the University of Applied Sciences in Muenster. His current research at Philips and the University deals with nanoscale materials and novel luminescent materials for LEDs and x-ray detectors. His work has been published in about 50 papers and lead to more than 100 patents on luminescent compositions and their application in fluorescent light sources and information displays. |
