RegOnline Philosophy: A letter from the CEO
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter to introduce myself, our company and what we stand for.
I was initially approached by our marketing experts at RegOnline asserting that we need a mission statement on our site, and that as the founder and CEO, I should be the one to write it. At first I rolled my eyes and cringed at the thought of yet another mission statement, but since my employees seem to know what they are talking about (or so they say), I agreed to take on the task of putting one together.
My initial attempt at writing a “mission statement” was a miserable failure, so after some soul-searching I came to the conclusion that I would rather compose a more personal letter that shares my background and beliefs on how to conduct business with our customers. So here we go…
As a person with almost thirty years experience in the technology industry, I consider myself first and foremost a techie or a geek (please use the term that is least derogatory), and then, if I have any extra time left on my hands, a businessman
On a daily basis I spend most of my day sitting in meetings with our team of developers discussing the design of a new feature or an enhancement to an existing component. I love this process. I can’t think of anything else I would rather do in life.
I also love talking to customers about their ideas on how to improve our system. In fact we have customers that I talk to almost on a weekly basis (if they answer my phone calls). We enjoy the geek-talk, we dream about a better system together, and dwell over the “what ifs” and “why nots”. Some of the great ideas that come out of these meetings and conversations get implemented and other not so great ones get thrown in the trash or stored in memory for future review, but what is important to me is the process. The process of involving employees and customers in determining what enhancements need to be made to the software, and letting them be in the driver’s seat. Every year we come up with a list of development and innovation projects that we plan on adding to our software, but before we schedule anything we send a survey to our customers asking them what features are most important to them. Based on this feedback we prioritize the projects and embark on a year long goal of bringing them to fruition. I believe this approach is what sets us apart from our competitors and has fueled the growth of our company.
As far as running the business goes, I try to take a common-sense approach to building the company. “Grow, but remain profitable.” So far we have succeeded. Together with my business partner, Bill Flagg, we have grown the business organically, kept control on all aspects of the business, are debt-free and most importantly are having the time of our lives doing it.
We are also both driven individuals and although we have complimentary skills we adhere to certain beliefs and rules of engagement in running the business that are uncompromising… the most important one for us is integrity – doing the right thing even when no one is watching. This trait will be immediately apparent when you talk to our sales people. You will notice that they don’t inundate you with false advertising, nor pressure you into committing to using our software. You will also see this reflected in our pricing. We don’t lock you into a contract or any upfront costs just to open an account with us. You will also notice this same trait when you get on the phone with our support staff. They are super-friendly, they try to solve your problem, they don’t make excuses for bugs in the software and won’t point fingers in different directions. It is absolutely imperative that you, as the customer, feel part of the family and community of RegOnline customers and know that you are dealing with a company who is trying to help you.
Finally, if you took the time to read this far, I’d like to thank you for doing so and hope that this letter gave you a glimpse of how RegOnline operates and what it stands for.
We’d love to hear from you and if you have any comments to share with me, feel free to call me directly at (888) 351 9948, extension 170.
Sincerely,
Attila Safari
