Course Information

An intensive one-day course designed to help physicians obtain Level 1 competency in thoracic ultrasound. Aimed primarily at respiratory physicians, the course may also be of interest to emergency and acute medicine specialists, anaesthetists and trainee radiologists.

Limited to only 24 delegates per course, the day is a mixture of short lectures, covering the Royal College of Radiologists level 1 knowledge base, and three 90 - 120 minute hands-on practical sessions.

During the latter, which will be held in the W12 conference centre and the cardiothoracic wards in Hammersmith hospital, groups of delegates (maximum of 3 per US machine) will be taught by experienced tutors using normal subjects, and patients with a wide range of pulmonary and pleural pathology. There will also be an opportunity for all delegates to practice US-guided thoracic intervention using phantoms.

The course is supported by four major US equipment vendors so delegates will be able to compare several different US machines and there will be application specialists from each company on hand to demonstrate their own US models (there will be eight US stations in total).
