To apply for the upgrade training you need to belong to a team that is already established. Please help us to see that you meet this criteria by telling us something about your program. The modalities of DBT that we are interested in are individual therapy session, skills training, telephone or other type of in-vivo coaching, and consultation meeting, along with any other DBT input to the patient’s environment, such as family groups.

Course Description

The 5 day DBT Upgrade Training is designed specifically for an individual or a small group of therapists (maximum of four) who have completed preliminary training in DBT (i.e. Foundation or equivalent) and are looking to increase their training to Intensive level status. The course is also well suited to those who are look-ing to refresh their skills and knowledge to further promote adherence to the model in the workplace. It is not a substitute for Intensive Training but is meant to assist teams that have employed new staff or experienced staff turnover and also to assist individuals who partake in the training in creating a structured route toward ad-vanced DBT Training and accreditation. This course is also suitable for those who may have received their ini-tial training in DBT with another training provider
This course will assume that all participants work in an active DBT Programme, participate in a consultation team, and work within a comprehensively trained team.

Pre-requisites

  • All applicants require a core professional qualification in mental health (e.g. nursing, psychiatry,psychology, social work).
  • Successfully completed Foundational training (or equivalent).
  • You will be asked to be prepared by:
  1. Preparing a target hierarchy and chain and solution analysis from the same case
  2. Provide a list of the functions and modes of DBT that you are currently providing
  3. Come prepared to lead a mindfulness exercise if called upon to do so.
