Update: 34 CPD points have been awarded by the Royal College of Pathologists

April 8-9, 2019. Hammersmith Diagnostic Histopathology of Breast Disease Course, Charing Cross Hospital (Imperial College), London W6 8RF, UK.

This five day update course is designed for pathologists at Consultant and Senior Trainees applying for Consultant jobs. The course is slanted towards practical diagnostic histopathology, providing a comprehensive coverage of the histopathology of breast disease, with special emphasis on areas which pose diagnostic difficulties.

The course is based, historically, on the extensive referral collection of the late Professor JG Azzopardi, to which is continuously added new cases from Charing Cross, Nottingham City, Ninewells, Western General, Addenbrookes, Guy’s and Queen Elizabeth Hospitals. The participants will be given ample time to study microscopic slides, followed by illustrated discussions, of around 150 cases spanning the whole spectrum of breast diseases including examples of common and problematic conditions as well as unusual lesions.

In addition there will be several daily talks on specific topics, given by eminent breast pathologists and followed by discussions. The topics include: New issues in the management and reporting of breast carcinoma, proliferative lesions including atypical ductal hyperplasia, columnar cell change, flat epithelial atypia, lobular neoplasia, problematic core and vacuum biopsies, DCIS and microinvasive carcinoma, handling breast specimens, fibro-epithelial, spindle cell and papillary lesions, papillary and metaplastic carcinoma, diagnosis of metastatic lesions in the breast, examination of breast tissue after neo-adjuvant chemotherapy, breast immunohistochemistry, mimics of breast carcinoma, Nipple and breast skin lesions, molecular pathology for breast pathologists and new frontiers in the management of breast cancer and what will be expected from breast pathologists in the future.
