WELCOME

Welcome to the DFK International Annual Conference 2017 in Honolulu, Hawaii.  Our American affiliates, DFK/USA (www.dfkusa.com) extend a special welcome to DFK members across the world. Oahu, home to Hawaii's capital, Honolulu is rich with both American and Polynesian history and culture.

HONOLULU

Honolulu, on the island of Oahu, is the capital and largest city of the state of Hawaii. It is the center of government, transportation, and commerce for the state; home to a population of nearly one million people in the metro area (80% of the state's population) and Hawaii's best known tourist destination, Waikiki Beach. In 2015, Honolulu was ranked as one of the safest cities in the United States.

The city has been the capital of the Hawaiian Islands since 1845 and gained historical recognition following the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan near the city on December 7, 1941.

The Waikiki neighborhood is its center for dining, nightlife and shopping, famed for its iconic crescent beach backed by palms and high-rise hotels, with volcanic Diamond Head crater looming in the distance

Beyond he fast-paced city of Honolulu and the glorious white-sand of Waikiki beach, natural beauty can be found in the Oahu mountain ranges of Koolau and Waianae. Some great hikes are just a short drive into the mountains from Waikiki. A little further away, secluded white sand beaches, funky beach towns, pounding winter surf on the North Shore (think of the opening scene of the 1970s show Hawaii Five-O).

Oahu is known to the Hawaiians as the gathering place and so makes a fitting location for the DFK International annual conference.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION

The DFK International Annual Conference will take place at the Moana Surfrider from Tuesday 11 July to Friday 14 July 2017.  This website contains information about the conference and includes a link to the conference booking system through which you will be able to register for the conference.  It also has the link to book accommodation at the Moana Surfrider, and the alternative accommodations the Sheraton Princess Kauilani.  You should find the site easy to navigate via the tabs at the top of the page, but if you do not find everything you need, please email: Maureen Dillmore, DFK/USA Director of Meetings (mdillmore@dfkusa.com).

If you will attend with an accompanying person, you should register your accompanying person as part of your own booking by adding their details at the bottom of the PERSONAL INFO PAGE and by using the group booking facility under the registration booking tab GUESTS & EVENTS and adding the ACCOMPANYING PERSON(S). 

ON-LINE REGISTRATION 

To register, click on the Register Now button on the top right hand side of this website. After you have completed the on-line registration form, you will receive an automatic confirmation by email which you should bring with you on-site as your record of the activities you will attend.  

If you do not receive this confirmation email, then you will have to register again. You can log back into the registration site to modify your registration, however, if you need to change anything after the registration site has closed, (which will be near to the date of the conference), please contact: Maureen Dillmore (mdillmore@dfkusa.com) who will make the necessary changes for you.

HOTEL ON-LINE BOOKING FORMS

Taking into consideration varying budgets, we booked two hotels this year, The Moana Surfrider, where conference sessions and activities will be held, and the Sheraton Princess Kauilana, which is directly across the street from the Moana. 

At the Moana, we have three room categories available, and only a small block of rooms at the Sheraton, so to ensure the hotel and room category of your choice, we urge you to make your hotel arrangements ASAP.

July is a particularly busy month in Honolulu, so some room categories on certain dates are already sold out. Please click on this link: HOTEL INFO or the tab above which contains the Hotel Information and the link to the on-line hotel booking form for further information.  

Please note that hotel rates are listed in $ USD and all other conference charges are posted in £ sterling.

CONFERENCE FORMAT

We have revised format for this year’s conference to start the Welcome Reception on the evening of Tuesday, July 11, to allow delegates ample arrival time before the conference kicks off.

The conference sessions start on Wednesday 12 July with the Day 1 Business sessions in the morning with opportunities for optional group tours or golf in the afternoon and groups social activities in the evening.  Day 2 will include business sessions in the morning and a group tour to Pearl Harbor in the afternoon, with the gala dinner on Thursday evening.  The business session on Friday morning, 14 July, will incorporate the DFK International Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the conference will close after this session.

In addition to the main conference business sessions, there will be a number of optional meetings and seminars including an optional Tax Seminar (am and pm sessions) and an Accounting & Assurance Seminar (pm session) on Tuesday 11 July.

Also, there will be in-person meetings of various DFK International committees during the course of the week and the chairs of the various committees will be making contact with committee members directly to confirm the final details of these meetings.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

As always, there is a full range of activities available in the social programme and the conference culminates in the Gala Dinner & Dance on Friday evening in the hotel. This will leave you with the weekend to take advantage of what the beautiful Hawaiian Islands have to offer.

CHANGES TO THE WAY DFK CHARGES FOR DFK CONFERENCES

The DFK International Conference is sold to delegates as a package and it will not be possible to offer refunds to delegates that opt out of the core elements, which include the Welcome Reception and Dinner; the 3 half-day business sessions; the Pearl Harbor tour; the informal group dinner; and the Gala Dinner.  Optional activities, including the tax and A&A seminars, optional tours, the Francophone meeting and the golf tournament, are not part of the core conference and are charged for separately.

Other than in exceptional circumstances, refunds to delegates who need to cancel will only be provided to the extent to which DFKI is able to recover costs from suppliers.

You should be aware that if you book an optional tour and fail to show up or make a late cancellation, you may be charged for that tour. We are obliged to do this because all group tours/activities have to be pre-booked and paid for in advance by DFK International.  Minimum numbers are applicable to some tours and if we do not reach that minimum number, we reserve the right to cancel the activity before we go on-site.  In this instance, you will be pre-notified and will receive a full refund.

If you need assistance on-site regarding the conference, DFKI staff can be contacted via email and will be located onsite from Sunday 9 July until the end of the conference on Friday 14 July.  For anybody not staying at the Moana Surfrider, you can collect your delegate conference bag at the Welcome Reception on Tuesday evening from the DFKI Staff or email Maureen Dillmore (mdillmore@dfkusa.com) for earlier pick-up at the Moana.
