RISE 8K Undercliff Run for Women 2017

  • What if my running pack doesn’t arrive?

Not to worry!  Send us an email, fundraising@riseuk.org.uk – turn up on the day, from 8:30am at the Information Tent with some ID, and we’ll give you a new number.  We are sending out running packs from the 21 September.

  •  My t'shirt doesn't fit. What shall I do?
Send us an email fundraising@riseuk.org.uk telling us the size you would like. Bring your tshirt with you on the day - and we'll swap it over.
  • I now find that I can’t run on the day, what shall I do?

Please let us know as soon as you know via email.  
We can probably use your place for the ‘waiting list’.

If you are not running because you are injured, you might want to consider helping us on the day with marshaling etc.    Call Fiona to find out more information on 01273 622828 ext  *231.

  • I’ve lost my running number?

Not to worry!   Send us an email, fundraising@riseuk.org.uk – turn up on the day, from 8:30am at the Information Tent with some ID, and we’ll give you a new number.

  • Can I walk the route?

We welcome speed walkers.... we will be starting to dismantle everything from 12.30pm – hopefully you’ll be back by then.

  • Can I run with my dog?

The venue and route is open to the public, and as such, even if your dog is very used to running with you – the potential dog distractions and delights make this an unsafe route for runners with dogs.


You can run with a buggy – we ask that you start at the back of the pack!

  • Can I enter on the day?

We are on target to sell out before the 30th September!  If this happens, send us an email, fundraising@riseuk.org.uk with your name, mobile no and we will put you on the Waiting List – and if we get cancellations we will go through the Waiting List.   If we have registrations on the day, the fee will be £35 (£25 registration and £10 donation) – cash or cheque only.

  • What time does the 8K start?

The 8K starts with a warm up at 9.50am with Zuzana.  We’ll get the Girls 1K started straight after.  When they are back, we’ll start the 8K – keep warm!

Aim to be on site by 9:30am at the latest.

  • I’m a Relay runner – what happens on the day for us?

Relay Teams need to meet up at the Information Tent, section RELAY soon after 9am, where you decide which order you are running in.  No 1. runner will be given the baton.

After the Girls 1K has set off, gather your No2,3,and 4 runners in front of the Start – where we can identify you and take you to your KM starts.
Or you can walk to your designated start KM.  We will have a van picking up the water station equipment, if you want a ride back, do hitch a lift.

  • Medals?

Yes, a special 2017 8K medal are for all, including the Girls and Relay runners – make sure you get one.


  • Are there toilets on route?

There are portaloos at the start, public toilets at the top of the beach opp the junction of Saltdean Park Road,  and at Rottingdean (c1KM) and Ovingdean (c2&6 KM)

  • Is there a baggage drop?

Yes!  On your running number there is a tear off Baggage strip.  Please use this and securely place on your bag.  Please place any loose clothing, in a black bin liner – we’ll have some of these – and use your Baggage strip.

 Important : Do not leave anything of value in your left baggage, but if you put your mobile phone in your bag, please put on silent.  You leave your baggage at your own risk.   

  • I’m coming along by bicycle, is there somewhere where I can lock it up?

Yes, we will have a barrier park to chain your bike to.  Please bring your own bike lock.

  • How many water stations have you?

8K – there are three – 2KM, 4KM, and 6KM

1K – we’ll have some water at the turn if needed.

We will have water at the start and finish.

  • Can we park near the start?

There is lots of available parking; there is free on-street and free car parks in Saltdean Park Road, on the north side of the A259 (turning down beside the Lido).  There is safe access to the beach/start via an underpass by the Lido, 10 min walk to the Start.

  • Do I have to raise money for RISE?

We ask that you raise, or donate just £20, in addition to the registration fee.  The registration fee only pays for the event, donations and sponsorship directly go to help support some of our most vulnerable people in our community.

  •  I have some cash as my sponsorship/donation to RISE - what's the best way to get it to you?
  • You can bring the cash with you on the day - please attach a piece of paper with your name and running number on it, together with the amount you are bringing. **

  • Pay the cash in, and send to us online via a Just Giving one off donation, making mention of your name, for the 8K.  

  • Pay the cash in, and send us a cheque, made out to RISE, and send to RISE 8K 2017, PO Box 889, Brighton BN2 1GH.  **

  • ** If you are eligible to Gift Aid the donation and you would like us to claim Gift Aid, please write your authorisation, date and signature on the paper.
  • Can I get a cuppa and something to eat?

We will have Nic and Bens catering unit to keep us well supplied with drinks and snacks – Bacon butties are at the top of the list!

  • Can family and friends come and cheer me on?

Of course, the more the merrier! If any of your friends and family would like to volunteer on the day please contact fundraising@riseuk.org.uk


The 8K route goes almost to Brighton Marina along the Undercliff and then return back to Saltdean. The 1K route goes almost to Rottingdean and back.   Water will be available at Ovingdean and at the Marina turn. There will be water at the finish.   Listen out for the Sussex Steel band near the halfway point, and Silver Sounds Samba band just before the finish.
